Kate Morgan Hotel Del Coronado

And San Diego hotels are that varied as well. Kate Morgan Hotel Del Coronado Just ask anyone from Maine to Arizona to California itself what they associate with this city, and they will tell you they think of fun, relaxation and beauty.

Sure, tropical resorts are great for romance and escape. But if you’ve ever felt a yearning for the water without spending the time and money for an extended vacation, then San Diego is a great place to visit. It has over 70 miles of coastline, and some of the most famous attractions in the world. Even Californians who live nearby use it as a quick getaway, whether they want to soak up the sun, sail or simply experience the rich food, the rich history and the rich array of amusements, all the while staying in one of the many San Diego hotels.

This city marks the starting point of the El Camino Real: the line of missions that early padres established to colonize California. Rich in Spanish, Native American and even military history, the city’s downtown area celebrates its heritage. Yet on the flipside, San Diego is a working city with plenty of suburbs and urban dwellers who commute to work. And that’s what makes this place so convenient. You don’t have to plan and pay for a huge getaway. Instead it is a regular city with all of the conveniences plus all of the delights.

Once you leave one of those San Diego hotels that range from the simple economy type to the Hotel del Coronado itself, you have a choice of biking, sailing, hot-air ballooning, bird watching, hang gliding, snorkeling and golf. Just simply sightseeing will fill your day, but of course you do not want to miss the famous San Diego Zoo or Wild Animal Park, and don’t forget the crown jewel of them all, SeaWorld. PETCO Park, the baseball stadium for the hometown Padres, is wonderfully child-friendly, as there’s a huge sand play area behind the outfield where kids can play while parents sit and still have a view of the game. If you’re feeling especially adventurous, you can even take a jaunt across the border to Mexico.

If you are not feeling the aforementioned attractions, there are plenty of military attractions to tour. San Diego is an important military base, and the sight of ships on the water off of the coastline is impressive, indeed. If you want a little more culture, there’s also plenty of theater and the best thing of all, world-famous fine dining. Or travel a bit north or east and you can enjoy the world-renowned aquarium at La Jolla, the cliffs of San Clemente or Legoland.

Watch Out For Tourist Information When Visiting San Diego

San Diego is a beautiful and cosmopolitan city that has a strong personality. It is livened up with some very evident multi-cultural influences, and has many Mexican touches and flares.

All of this combined, and so much more, has helped to make the San Diego area one of the top tourist destinations in California and there is a great deal of tourist information available to help visitors make the most of their stay in “America’s Finest City.”

When perusing through the extensive tourist info that is available about the San Diego region, it is easy to understand why San Diego has taken on the nickname of “America’s Finest City.” The fact is readily evident that San Diego has something for everyone. Some of the most popular and well-known attractions are the world-famous San Diego Zoo, the Wild Animal Par, LegoLand, SeaWorld, Balboa Park and the Birch Aquarium, just to name a few.

In addition, there is extensive tourist information available about the other activities around the San Diego area that are popular for those enjoying vacation travel in the area. Some of these activities include harbor cruises, whale watching, riding the trolley into Tiajuana, soaking in the ambiance of Old Town, and shopping at Horton Plaza or Seaport Village.

Because there is so much to do and so many places to see when traveling to San Diego, it is a good idea to pick up travel guides that are available from the San Diego tourist info booths. If you don’t want to go and find one of these informational booths, then most of the local area hotels will also have a nice selection of tourist info and travel guide pamphlets. Collect a few of these and spend some time looking through them so that you can map out each day of your trip.

When you take some time to review the tourist info that is available you will undoubtedly be able to get more from your trip overall than if you don’t have a good plan. By looking up each of the tourist attraction locations on the maps that are included in most of the travel guides, you will see which attractions are nearby to another one and this will allow you to get from one to the other quickly, thus helping to avoid running from one part of town to the other.

Almost all of the tourist guides for the San Diego area will include advertisements, and sometimes even coupons for the special “Best Attraction Pass” that is available. By purchasing this pass, you will have free access to more than 55 different tourist attractions and activities that you would otherwise need to pay for in order to visit.

This pass gives you a great deal of flexibility and allows you to visit as many of these attractions as you have time for. You can choose a one-day pass or from various multi-day pass options.

To maximize the savings that you get with the “Best Attraction Pass,” keep an eye out for vacation packages that include the passes bundled with hotel and air arrangements. Most places that provide detailed tourist information will also have links to some great packaged vacation deals that will help you make the most of your time and money.

Amusement parks for young children?

Well, my little sister, who served two years in a birthday party and we want have a place primarily for very young children and babies. Places like Chuck E Cheese's or something, if we are to seek alternatives. We do not want to pass the list FORTUNE (Disneyland, Legoland, and some whole lotta others) to expensive places, if we do, I do not to this question. We live in canlifornia Souther, and do not want unity now. More Information: Southern California Orange County need a place to share some of Orange County or near there who would run for only a few hours (1-2 or maybe 3) THANKS!

You would in a public park and playground. Fun and easy place to bring your children and is free. Other Places ideas are even lower are found within just a group climbing toys for children, is an explosion of them. About $ 5 per person (children and adults) and are usually plans a party for you a bit more. One in our area is called "outbreak." Or those places where they have big giant blow up jumping. A multitude of options that are not Disneyland prices.

best way to travel to Ireland to Legoland Windsor?

Want to put my two children to Legoland this summer, but want to know where the whereabouts of Windsor, which is the nearest port or airport, near Windsor and a hotel is so close is not necessary to the car.

Windsor is just west of London. Airport Nearest Heathrow. Getting a flight there, and then a train, a short journey from London Waterloo (direct) or Paddington (1 change). By boat is a challenge because it would be at home in both Liverpool, Holyhead and Fishguard, which are all miles hunreds destination.

A Historical Palace of Splendid Architecture and Art Work

Built according to the Tudor style architectural structure of the Windsor Castle of England, “Bangalore Palace” has a history of over 120 years as a major historic monument in India. Built in 1887 by Reverend Garret in the heart of Bangalore, the palace was previously surrounded by some fascinating gardens in its huge open area which have disappeared to a certain extent today.

Bangalore Palace was constructed occupying a floor area of 45,000 square feet and its vast gardens were occupying about 454 acres around it. All the 35 rooms and the whole palace interior were decorated with floral patterns, graceful wooden carvings, diverse kinds of beautiful paintings and also neo-classical furniture. During the colonial period of the British Empire, the palace was bought from Prince Wodeyar in 1873 by the British elites who were in charge of his education.

The palace includes fortified towers where the visitor could observe most of the stylish wood carvings and paintings in its Tudor-style structure completed with battlements, turrets with Gothic windows. The entrance of the palace has been added a unique elegance by its terrific door panel that leads to the grand settings inside. The exquisite ground floor is comprised with an open square that includes granite seats covered with blue ceramic tiles.

The “Durbar Hall” is located in the first floor of the palace which is sort of a completive hall reachable by the stylish staircase. Its wall area also festooned with one of a kind paintings and a huge elephant head has been built up as to be seen from every corner. Most of the features in the hall such as Gothic style stained glass windows, walls and the sofa set have been colored in Yellow. The paintings including Greek and Dutch paintings of the palace belong to the 19th century. The original cost of the palace has been estimated to be one hundred thousand rupees and up to now it has undergone several renovations adding some modifications to increase its attractiveness.

Apart from that, the palace is surrounded by a variety of Bangalore serviced apartments. Being one of the most premier hospitality services in the country providing all world class facilities and interiors, Somerset serviced apartments is the ideal choice of accommodation when visiting this historic Bangalore Palace.

Legoland party
What to do for BF’s 25th birthday party? Legoland? Surprise party at home? Ideas!?

My bf turns 25 this month, I want to do something really special for him. We live in LA, so we’ve done the party scene…he has mentioned he would like to go to Legoland, so I was thinking about driving to SD and surprise him with Legoland and then when we return have his best friends waiting at our place with alcohol and cake/poker for a surprise ‘mini’ party.

If you take him to San Diego to see Legoland, he will be surprized alright, because it is not there. You’ll have to stop in Carlsbad to see legoland. Carlsbad is 38 miles closer to La anyway.

Charles Handy’s “New Alchemists”

There are only a few modern management thinkers that are worth reading and Charles Handy is one of them. His book, the “New Alchemists” features 29 London-based “alchemists” and is an attempt to study how these people have managed to create something out of nothing. The book targets anyone with genuine interest in people and management.

About the Author

Charles Handy was born in Kildare, Ireland in the year 1932. He was educated at Oriel College, Oxford and was conferred with an honorary Doctor of Laws by Trinity College in Dublin. His business career started on marketing at Shell International. Soon after, he entered the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he met the likes of Warren Bennis and Chris Argyris who influenced his interest in organizations and how they work.

He managed the Sloan Programme at the Graduate Business School in London and eventually became a full professor at the school specializing in managerial psychology. He also worked at a conference and study center in Windsor Castle that concerns itself with ethics and values in society. He became the Chairman of the Royal Society of Arts in London and holds honorary doctorates from several British universities. Handy is popular in Britain due to his segment on the BBC Radio Today program.

Handy’s main concerns lie on the dramatic changes which technology, demography and economics are bringing to the workplace and its implication for the society as well as individuals. His books are predominantly about these themes. He has advanced several relevant ideas including the “portfolio worker” and the “Shamrock Organization”.

He is the son of an Archdeacon and is married to Elizabeth, a portrait photographer who is also his business partner, with two grown children and a home each in London, Italy and Norfolk. He and his wife live the “portfolio life” which is essentially the balancing of skills and time to make the most out of independent careers. He has been rated among the Thinkers 50 which is an elite group of people considered to be the most influential living management thinkers.

The books he has authored like the “The Future of Work” and the “Age of Unreason” among others, have forever changed the thinking and practice of organizations internationally. Whole generations of employees have been encouraged to re-consider their relationship with employers towards more flexible working, portfolio careers and consultancy roles. Handy was the first to identify that there are other options besides having careers for life as seen on the trends and changes manifested on a global and fundamental scale.

Charles Handy is often called an organizational development guru. His motivation calculus is based on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. However, his version attempts to answer for complexities and variations in people’s situations which are beyond the reach of the original model.

Globally recognized for his managerial insights and wisdom, Handy is often invited to speak at business conferences and other venues to let his influential voice be heard worldwide. The conference organizing committee of the IT@Cork conference has specifically selected Handy to speak at their affair. They believe that he would do justice to the event as he shares his expertise on enhancing entrepreneurship and innovation capacities in the technology sector for Irish companies. Handy is a management scholar and radio commentator aside from being a best-selling author but he sees himself primarily as a social philosopher.

About the Book

“The New Alchemists” is a fascinating investigation of the creative and entrepreneurial process. Stories of ordinary people who have gone on to do extraordinary things fill the pages of this book. Some personalities featured are relatively known but most can be considered famous only within their chosen spheres.

Handy believes that alchemy thrives in a culture of experimentation where clusters of creative people who are found in close proximity manage to infect each other with a specific quality. He sees the need to provide the conditions that would allow alchemists to discover and grow their talents. He believes that children are better exposed to a wide range of experiences to provide opportunities for them to discover what they are good at and to realize that mistakes and changes are not necessarily fatal.

The personalities featured in the book can only demonstrate how they do it and lets Handy describe and articulate it. From the combined feedback gathered from these alchemists, there seems to be a “recipe” to produce one. Probable alchemists are those that have extensive exposure to different situations and experiences, regular interaction with a wide variety of stimulating people, large doses of encouragement with experimentation and risk taking as well as the appreciation of people’s innate differences.

The book looks like a coffee table book which is made more interesting by Elizabeth Handy’s intriguing and perceptive photographs. It contains a series of interviews that offer interesting insights into events that triggered the changes in the features persons’ lives. There are also summary chapters that provide some useful generalizations about the causes of success. The articles would make the readers consider their own motivations in relation to how other people make things happen.

New ideas, products, associations, initiatives, art and design seldom come from established organizations. They come from individuals like the alchemists. Handy knows he has found 29 of these individuals and decided to tell their stories.

Charles Handy equates modern day entrepreneurs with the new alchemists. Their ability to create something out of nothing is likened to the ability to turn base metal into gold, an ability which was attributed to alchemists of medieval times and looked upon with awe by society. Entrepreneurs as the new hero of a free enterprise society capture the public imagination in a way that career managers can never do.

The photo stylings of Elizabeth Handy combine different aspects of the subject’s life and are able to reveal more about the subjects than their own words. The pictures provided work to complement the text and help define the nature of the book. The articles are uncritical and self contained which results to a book which is both upbeat and inspirational.

Handy has taken the pains to select people from different areas of life as well as different ages and backgrounds. He is able to demonstrate that alchemists are quite diverse despite the obvious similarities. Like medieval alchemists, the new alchemists worked long and hard to be able to “transmute base metal into gold”. Their driving force then was their passion and their all consuming quest for the best. The new alchemists have their dedication, doggedness and difference. They just needed just a little help in finance, encouragement and a dream that badly needed to be converted to reality.

Things To Do In London – The Best List

Car Rental London

The Greater London area is full of attractions for all ages. Huge, multicultural and cosmopolitan, London’s 33 boroughs stretch over 600 square miles, making it a good thing there are nearly 20,000 licensed taxis, double-decker buses and other public transports, plus the Underground tube for getting around. London, however prim and proper in perception, is far from doddering, since a huge 47.3 percent of its 7.5 million population is aged between 16 and 44, with one in five residents from an ethnic minority. Little wonder that more than 200 languages are spoken here, with the café culture encompassing cuisines from more than 70 countries in some 6,000 restaurants and 5,000 pubs and bars. With 30-plus historic gardens and 123 historic buildings, London also has more than 200 museums, 600 cinema screens, and 108 music halls. Within an hour of London are 95 golf courses, 2,000 tennis courts, seven ice rinks, and six race courses. London has no known founder, although historic record points to King Lud of Ludgate Hill fame. Shortly after the Roman conquest of 43 AD, invaders realized the strategic significance of the river Thames running through the flat, fertile mainland. The Norman invasion of 1066 was marked by construction of the mighty Tower of London, located to protect London Bridge from raiders coming upstream. As throughout Europe, London was hard hit by the Bubonic Plague known as the Black Death, which wiped out a third of its population in 1348-49. Yet the population tripled under the Tudors, and by 1700, it had passed a half million, ranking with Paris and Naples as one of Europe’s three largest cities. When Edward VII ascended the throne in 1901, London was the largest city in the world, and it remains Europe’s largest.

Taking Afternoon Tea
Taking tea has been a London tradition for more than 150 years. The practice was launched by the Duchess of Bedford in 1830 when she ordered a little something to ward off pangs between lunch and dinner. By the 1840s, wafer thin slices of bread spread with chopped cucumber along with light sponge cakes and freshly brewed pots of tea were being served up with tidbits of gossip all over London. Afternoon tea became hot and haute throughout the Edwardian period (1901-1910). With the arrival of the Argentine Tango, London’s grand hotels began hosting tea dances, so entrenched by the 1920s, they continued to reign as a social event until WWII. The prospect of scones and a spot of tea remains enough to restore energy for any weary traveler. For many, tea at the Ritz Hotel’s Palm Court (jacket required for men, and early booking recommended) is the ultimate indulgence at any of three seatings. Food emporium Fortnum & Mason, in business since 1707, beckons with Traditional Tea, a Champagne Tea, or High Tea at St. James’s Tearoom. At Kensington Palace, where the gardens were a favored retreat of Diana, Princess of Wales, the Orangery was built by Queen Anne in 1705, and tea includes fresh strawberries and double cream in season. Pre-booking is essential at Brown’s Hotel, opened in 1837 by James Brown (a former valet of Lord Byron), and a favorite of Rudyard Kipling and Agatha Christie, serving sandwiches and scones on Wedgwood porcelain near a fireplace.

Fun Town at Legoland California is Indeed a Fun Town

Well, you’re still at Legoland California and you’ve made it through the first three areas, The Beginning, Dino Island and Explore Village. The next area you’ll visit is true to its name and there is plenty of fun for all to be had at a kid’s sized town called Fun Town. This is the largest area in the park. There are twelve featured rides, attractions and shows in all here so get your selves and the kids ready for a few adventure packed hours of fun! A good place for the kids to start would be the Sky Cruiser ride. This is a kid ride with petal powered Lego cars on a track a few feet above Fun Town that circles the Kid Power Towers and allows for a nice view of the park. Kids only 36” tall can enjoy the ride when a child accompanies them at least 48” tall. The 48” rule generally applies for smaller kids. When they are through cruising around the track the Kid Power Towers are right there. This is a ride that adults can take with the kids. You go up one of three towers and “free fall” kid style to the bottom. You can see the entire park as well as the ocean on this one!

The next adventure is a great one for all the kids and is the Volvo Driving School. For the younger ones there is the Volvo Junior Driving School with a minimum age of 3 years to 5 years old. They can even earn their very own official Legoland drivers license. The kids are strapped in genuine Lego electric cars and are allowed to drive without being on a track. The kids 6 to 13 years old get to earn their Legoland drivers license as well at the Volvo Driving School. Here the kids drive larger electric Lego cars and learn rules of the road such as starting, stopping, turning, and signaling. When the kids are through driving they’ll want to go on a Sky Patrol. These little prop planes go up and down and the little ones love this ride.

Across the way from the driving schools is the Big Test show. Adults usually like this attraction as the can enjoy the show while setting down. There is where the kids will learn all about fire safety. It’s also 20 minutes of great family entertainment watching the very funny volunteer Fun Town Fire Department. They use a working fire truck and try to beat the “Big Test” on a Lego buildings set. You could get a little wet here! After going through the big test it makes sense that the Fun Town Fire Academy would be next. This is a workout for the entire family. Fire trucks carrying a parent and a kid race up to a pump station and the parent pumps vigorously while the kid aims the water nozzle and tries to put out a fire in a burning building. Don’t worry. The “burning” building is harmless.

You and the kids have probably worked up an appetite by now so you might want to stop by the Fun Town Market. There you can have a soft drink and some pasta, a sandwich or a salad. There are other selections as well and you can enjoy your meal while sitting at an outdoor table and relaxing under an umbrella. If you’d prefer a great, and healthy, hot dog and fries the Fun Town Hot Dog is right next door.

Now that you’ve had a bite to eat and have rested a bit you’ll want to check out the Legoland Club House in Fun Town. This is where you can build your own Lego creation and then pay for it by the pound and take it with you. The Lego Factory Tour is next door and is where you’ll learn first hand how Lego bricks are made and packaged. After you’ve had the tour you can buy Lego bricks by the quarter pound. The next adventure is for all ages and is named the Adventures Club, This is where the family can go on a walk through trip where you will see scenes and inhabitants from the Artic Circle, Egypt at the time of the pharaohs, the Amazon jungle and more. After the Adventure’s journey you can do a little shopping at the Brick Brothers Trading Company for some neat surfing clothes. After all, you are on the southern California coast!

After this brick building and shopping the kids will surely be ready for another airplane ride and they can do this at the Flight Squadron. And what’s better after an airplane ride than a boat ride? The Skipper School, and the final adventure in Fun Town, would be the place for this. Kids from 34” tall to adults can steer their Lego boats around the lagoons while being on the look out for the Skipper himself, floating around in a bathtub.

Now that you’ve made it through The Beginning, Dino Island, Explore Village and Fun Town you’re almost half way through Legoland California! Pirate Shores will be the next area you’ll visit and is full of adventures that the entire family will enjoy. Ahoy, matey!

the problem is my sons causin wants to ride with my brother and my son does too and only two people can get in. my son less wanted to go with me to drive the boats and more wanted to go with my brother on the boats but his causin just wants my brother better to be with him and my son is hating that he is getting upset that his causin gets to go with my brother i said sometimes life is not fair but he says i keep learning about life and yells i want to go with my uncle and i say theres no choice but he keeps doing it i say it haves to be with me and he still does it.how can i solve the problem?

Well I like the suggestion above about letting your brother go twice with both the boys, but if that is not possible then just tell your son it’s either with you or not at all. That always works with my kids, they might not like it at first but by the time they get to do the fun thing they forget about it. Have fun, and Good Luck!!

Is Legoland (windsor) fun for adults?

I’m thinking of doing a trip there for my bf birthday, he is mad on lego as i think it brings him back to his childhood. He’s gonna be 27 and i was wondering if the rides in Legoland might be a bit tame.
Has anyone gone with young people and found themselves having just as much fun?

I went to Legoland California with my niece and nephews (ages 2-10) and they had a blast. I am close to your BF’s age though, and was fairly bored (especially since we had a free ticket so we went twice – ughhhh!!!).

It looks like there are a couple decent water rides, and the Jungle Coaster looks OK (kind of like the Test Track in California) but it isn’t anything like the rides at bigger parks such as Alton Towers. Unfortunately, it looks like Legoland Windsor is missing Legoland’s only really great attraction – a KUKA Robocoaster.

At Legoland Denmark, it is known as Power Builder.
http://www.legoland.dk/LEGOLAND/rides/LEGOCity.htm?lc=en&view=ShowAll

At Legoland California, it is known as Knight’s Tournament
http://www.legoland.com/park/rides/ridesandattractions.htm

If Legoland Windsor had one, I’d say it would be worth it to go as a Lego fan. Without that ride, unless you are going with really little kids, it just isn’t worth it.

On A Map Quest…resort Maps To Produce “best Of Windsor” Map, Advertising Opportunities Available

WINDSOR, ENGLAND AND WAITSFIELD, VERMONT, USA…

Resort Maps, creator of more than 95 customized travel maps across the United States, England, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico, recently began work on the first edition of a map of Windsor.  Resort Maps are colorful, hand-drawn maps of resort towns and cities, free to area visitors.

The creation of the Best of Windsor Resort Map will show what the area has to offer by highlighting local attractions, restaurants, accommodations, retail shops, real estate and other services in the greater Windsor area. Each advertiser on the map is represented with a display ad surrounding the perimeter of the map, including a color-coded grid locator and their actual building drawn, highlighted and labeled, making it easy to locate.

These same colorful maps can be found on-line at www.resortmaps.com. Here you will find interactive maps of all 90+ resort areas to choose from. These interactive maps allow the viewer to read a description of each business as they scroll over each building and to connect to the website of the business for further information.

“Windsor has always been a popular destination for tourists and it’s become an even greater draw as people stay closer to home during their holidays,” said Paul Drew, Resort Maps franchise owner. “The new Windsor map offers a real treasure trove of things to do for people on holiday in the area or just down for a day or two. Our free ‘souvenir style’ maps can be found not only at the local advertisers’ shops but also at many non-advertiser locations throughout the area.”

For information on how to advertise on the upcoming Windsor map, you can e-mail franchise owner Paul Drew at pauldrew4@googlemail.com.

Resort Maps began creating and publishing maps in the northeastern U.S. back in 1986. In an effort to continue the company’s growth and simultaneously maintain the quality of the product, Resort Maps became a franchisor in 1993. Since adopting the franchise model, Resort Maps has grown steadily to more than 90 maps distributed across 20 states as well as towns and cities in England and Puerto Rico.

“We publish over 20 million maps per year in more than 95 cities and towns for a good reason. Our maps are fun, easy-to-read and they really do make you want to stop and see some of the local attractions before heading to the next part of your trip. Our advertisers like them for that very same reason,” said Peter Hans, president of Resort Maps.

Windsor castle london
Windsor Castle.. Is it worth the time?

Ill be in london for a week and wanted to go out to windsor castle for a day by train, Do You think that it’s worth traveling out to see, And how far out of london is it, how long will i need there and is there much to see in the town windsor itself?

It’s totally worth the time to go and see. I’ve been to London at least 1/2 dozen times and always make it a point to go. The tour of the castle is great, and Windsor is a fun little town to poke around and explore. It’s also possible to get there by bus which is actually how we always go. We take the GreenLine Bus which is leaves across the street from Victoria Train Station, and is a quick ride into Windsor and departs fairly frequently.

What are some interesting things to do in London, Birmingham, and surrounding areas?

I have been to London before and have seen Windsor Castle and a few other historical places. This time I want to see more. And I am going to Bimingham just to get a shirt from the Hard Rock Cafe, but since I’ll be there I’d like to hang out for the day. I also need hotel and restaurant suggestions.
I will be there for about a week in June.

Hi Bamagrad07,

If you need advice for hotels, certainly for London, check out this page for ideas where to stay…

http://www.hotel-assist.com/where-to-stay-in-london.html

There’s a couple of really good restaurant districts.. check out Sicilian Avenue for italian food, if you like spicy food try the uk’s national dish – Curry – which is in fact Indian food but very popular over here. The best indian i know of is located at the montana hotel in Kensington called “light of India”. For Chinese/Thai head to the west end and Chinatown for many many eat-in and out choices.
The very upmarket restaurants in town – often frequented by celebs – are The Ivy and Nobu – quite expensive though.
I can highly recommend Gaucho – a small chain of restaurants dotted around the capital. Very high quality and not too expensive.
http://www.gaucho-grill.com/
Things to do in London…
The london eye is a must if you havent done it before… make sure you get tickets in advance if you can as you can queue for hours….
http://www.hotel-assist.net/london/London_Eye.htm
London Zoo is excellent and worth a visit on a nice day.
http://www.hotel-assist.net/london/london_zoo.htm
There’s plenty of options regarding art galleries – with the Tate Modern being the most popular choice.
Regarding Birmingham – i dont know the city too well… however, if you have an interest in History or Literature make sure you visit Stratford-Upon-Avon or Warwick. Stratford was the home of Shakespeare – here there is a museum and you can see his house. In Warwick there is a well-preserved medieval castle – one of the best in Britain. In Birmingham itself there’s the Cadbury factory – you can have a tour around Britians most popular chocolate factory. I’m sure there’s lots more to do but as i said Birmingham isnt my strong point.

Have a nice visit to the UK

Windsor castle banquet
In todays world do we really need all that pomp that goes on with having head of state served?

Yesterday, by accident I saw an interesting documentation about the Castle of Windsor. In which it was documented how many people it takes to put up a state affair banquet.
It was a majestic in-fluencial affair. However, do we really need such things now a days? When you could easily serve a chicken or pork roast in an oven? Who needs to go through such long pre-pardness and even meassure with a stick how far a plate is from each other or a chair is before a table?

it’s called tradition, long may it reign, it’s also called employment and brings in a bit of brass ! The royal family, especially the queen earns more money and investment for Gt Britain than it costs to keep the whole of the royal family. Foreigners love the pomp and ceremony. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN.

Top 10 Reasons Motor Homes are Better Than Plane Trips

1. Motor homes can take you more places. The idea that travel is just about going to another city for a few days is limited. What about pro or college football tailgating? Do you think a Packers tailgate party would be less fun or more with an RV that has a kitchen, tables, TV and bathroom? I’m thinking it would be more fun. One trip to a Port-a-san in Green Bay and you’ll think so too. (A people raised on cheese AND beer AND bratwurst? Are you kidding me?)

2. Planes are cramped. I don’t care how much faster they get you there, it is not fun having to sit on a glorified bus for an hour to five hours, surrounded by people you would happily ignore any other time, even if they were on fire.

3. Motor homes have beds. That you can stretch out is one thing. That you or your passengers can move about the cabin as much as they want is another thing. But when everyone can pile on the couch or bed and not have to worry about any strangers – or smell them – motor homes win. You can use motor homes as portable temporary housing if you need to. Can the airlines claim that? Why don’t you ask one of the Jet Blue passengers that had to sleep in an airport terminal last year.

4. Stewardesses are evil. At some point in the history of air travel, “stewardess”? went from being this sexy, glamorous job to crabby drink server. Which makes sense, because it’s only a plane. But since 9/11 each one thinks they’re the last line of defense to the cockpit. Any complaint, no matter how rational, means you could spend the rest of the flight on the ground in flex-cuffs.

5. Recreational vehicle rental opens up traveling. If you need to get to a meeting in another state by tomorrow, yeah, flying is your best option. But if you’re heading out to see something new, the road offers as much as your destination. It’s part of the thrill of the open road, the places you hardly ever hear about but dot the landscape. Cafes, historical monuments, natural wonders. There are even special destinations like Disneyland RV parks, SeaWorld, Legoland… which leads directly into reason #6…

6. You can’t get an airline to land in the middle of Yellowstone Park. A motor home not only replaces a plane, it replaces your hotel room and your rental car. It’s everything you need packed into a single vehicle.

7. Motor homes don’t have security checkpoints. When you travel by motor home, you are not only more comfortable, not only allowed to bring as much carry on luggage as you feel like – but you will never have a minimum wage employee root around in your bags to see if you are carrying more than 4 oz. of hair gel.

Because if you want to bring down that Lockheed L-1011 TriStar, all you need is a full bottle of Listerine and the will to do so. Are these people for real?

8. A motorhome for sale does not fall flaming from the sky. That one’s relatively self explanatory though.

9. Planes can leave without you. With air travel, you are entirely at the mercy of the flight schedule. If you really like being insulted, try this on for size: If you are late, the plane will leave without you, but the airline is free to be as late as they please and they usually are. As a result you can be late for your all-important connecting flight in Pittsburgh… which will leave without you.

10. Planes smell bad. Face it, they do. Have you ever seen what the cleaning crew on a plane does? They fold a blanket or two and swab off any vomit they might find. But since air travel is all about turn around, they don’t have time to do much of anything else. The design on the seat cushions sure looks like they haven’t updated since the mid 80s – so how much butt do you think they’ve had rubbed on them?

Her Majesty uses it for state and private entertaining. Windsor Castle , Buckingham Palace and Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh are the official residences of the royal family, while Sandringham House and Balmoral Castle are their private homes.

The castle is situated in Windsor, in Berkshire, the English county. It is the largest inhabited castle in the world. William the Conqueror also lived here many, many years back. Since then, the royal family has continuously used it.

The castle’s floor area is about 484,000 square feet. Most of the Kings and Queens of England and Great Britain have had a say in the evolution of this gigantic castle. The British history has plenty of references to the Windsor Castle, which has been the royal family’s home and fortress, and sometimes even their prison, for centuries. The history of the castle and the Royalty has been closely linked. Each reigning royal has made additions and expansions or reconstructions when needed and as preferred by them.

The Round Tower is a landmark of the castle. However, it is not cylindrical but irregular. It is on a man-made hill and the shape is determined by the hill. The Round Tower divides the castle into two sections known as wards. The lower ward is home to St George’s chapel while the upper ward contains the Royal apartments and the formal state rooms, which include St George’s hall, a vast room which has a ceiling decorated with the coat of arms and present members of the Order of the Garter.

There is a regular change of guards, which form an attraction for visitors. The guards stand stiffly for hours, not moving a single muscle. Each marches from his position during the change of guards and it is a solemn occasion. The Windsor Castle is open for public viewing during certain times, mainly when the royal family is not in residence.

Visiting rights to the Windsor Castle are restricted and if you wish to take a tour around the castle, you need to make reservations with a tour service. Make sure you stay at a nearby Slough hotel and arrive early for the tour. Check out the Copthorne Hotel Slough Windsor for some quite relaxation and modern comfort during your hotel stay.

A preview of May’s UK horse racing

May ushers in the first Classics of the current turf Flat season, beginning with the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 6. All eyes will be upon the short-priced favourite George Washington as he bids to bring trainer Aidan O’Brien back-to-back victories in the colts’ Classic following Footstepsinthesands smart success twelve months ago.

In recent years the 2,000 Guineas has been the personal preserve of the Flat’s big battalions with Sir Michael Stoute, Saeed Bin Suroor and Aidan O’Brien dominating the race year after year with a succession of expensive blue-bloods.

This time around it’s the tight-lipped O’Brien who seems to hold all the aces courtesy of the aforementioned George Washington, a brilliant, if at times temperamental, colt who swept all before him as a juvenile and sets out this season to prove he’s not just a two-year-old wonder but can mix it with the best and come out on top as a three-year-old.

Only Barry Hills and Dermot Weld have broken the big boys’ monopoly of the 2,000 and this year it’s Marcus Tregoning who has been cast in the role of party-pooper as he bids interrupt the top guns by training Sir Percy to land the opening Classic. Regarded as the best horse that he’s ever trained by his astute handler, last season’s Dewhurst winner is sure to go close in a race that will be run to suit his talents.

On the same day Newmarket stages the Palace House Stakes, a Group 3 for up-and-coming sprinters and the fast-improving Reverence well be an interesting runner while over at Haydock, the jumps stages a last hurrah with the valuable William Hill Swinton Handicap Hurdle, and Philip Hobbs could hold a strong hand here courtesy of Wellbeing and Motorway, two progressive and late-blossoming timber-toppers.

On Sunday May 7, it’s the fillies’ turn to strut their stuff in the 1,000 Guineas where Gololphin’s Silca’s Sister, Ballydoyle’s Rumplestiltskin and Race For the Stars will do battle with John Gosden’s Nanina for the fillies’ Blue Riband. On the same day Breeders’ Cup hero Shirocco is likely to come up against Sir Michael Stoute’s late-developer Hard Top and the evergreen John Porter winner, Mubtaker, in the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket. Spring gallop s reports have singled out the Stoute horse for top honours.

Chester’s prestigious three-day meeting follows hot on the heels of Newmarket and the Derby hopefuls will be on show in the MBNA Europe Bank Chester Vase (May 11), with the fillies taking centre stage in the Weatherbys Bank Cheshire Oaks on May 10. Barry Hills has a superb record on this turning track and any horse he runs in the previous two races will be worth close inspection.

On Wednesday May 10 the totesport Chester Cup is the meeting’s big betting race and recent Newmarket winner Mikao set down an early marker for this big staying prize. Four-year-olds often run well here and trainer Barry Hills boasts an excellent record. Friday, May 12, closes the Chester meeting and the feature race for the older horses is the Blue Square Ormonde Stakes landed last year by Day Flight.

The run of Classic trials continues at Lingfield on May 13 with the Letheby and Christopher Derby Trial and the totesport.com Oaks Trials respectively for the real things at Epsom the following month. It isn’t just the Classic colts and fillies that are in the firing-line at Lingfield because the Surrey course also stages the totesport Victoria Cup, a closely fought and always influential 7f handicap that frequently throws up a Royal Ascot winner or two.

Over in France the following day, May 14, the European Flat season raises the volume with the Poule de’Essai des Poulains (French 2,000 Guineas) and the Poulai d’Essai des Pouliches (French 1,000 Guineas) on the same card at Longchamp.
Ballydoyle and Godolphin have begun to target these two important races in recent seasons and their runners should be respected, but Criquette Head-Maarek’s Quiet Royale will be fancied for the ‘Pouliches’ after a satisfactory spin in second at Longchmap the other day.

Flat racing’s domestic caravan rolls on to York for their three-day Dante meeting and the potential Oaks fillies will run in the Musidora Stakes on May 17, the meeting’s opening salvo which is now a Wednesday on account of the fixture moving forward by a single day.

On May 18 the Derby hopefuls will run in the Dante Stakes and it’s worth recalling that in recent times, North Light and Motivator, the last two winners of this race, have gone on to glory at Epsom in just over three weeks’ time, while looking a little further back in the race’s illustrious history, it’s worth noting that Shahrastani, Reference point, Erhaab and Benny The Dip all went on from the Dante to Derby success.

This mile and a quarter Group 2 contest has clearly become a key Classic trial in recent seasons and mustn’t be missed. There’s sure to be a host of top-class performers in contention on the Knavesmire and Sir Michael Stoute has the best contemporary Dante record with two winners and three placed horses.

On the same day as the Dante keep a close eye upon the outcome of the Hambleton Stakes, a valuable mile handicap that has a habit of throwing up the winner of the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot the following month especially if the Hambleton winner is trained by Sir Michael Stoute.

The final day of the Dante meeting sees the stayers take centre stage in the Yorkshire Cup, a useful pointer to the rest of the campaign’s leading staying races. Alan Swinbank’s stable star Collier Hill, a winner of the Irish St Leger last season, is a likely runner and may well be capable of surprising more fancied horses.

On May 20 it’s the turn of the season’s crack milers to unleash their firepower in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury and this has been a good race for Saeed Bin Suroor and the boys in blue in recent seasons, and it would be no surprise to see them land this Group1 event with Proclamation, who is surely heading for the top after joining Godolphin on the back of a brilliant three-year-old season.

In France the following day Longchamp’s Prix d’Ispahan always draws the top mile and mile and a quarter horses and this a race that mustn’t be missed as a key pointer to some of the season’s top races over this classic ten furlongs.

The month of May rounds off with the Irish 2,000 Guineas on May 27 followed by the Irish 1,000 Guineas on the following day. Both these valuable races tend to go to horses that have raced in the equivalent events at Newmarket and inevitably British trainers hold an excellent record in both races.

Finally, Sandown’s two-day fixture at the very end of the month is always informative with the Henry 11 Stakes for top-notch staying horses on May 29 followed on May 30 by the Temple Stakes for sprinters over the minimum trip and the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes in which trainer Sir Michael Stoute boats a useful record. Any runner from his yard should be noted carefully.

What to You Must See in Surrey UK

There are many splendid locations in South East England for you to visit near London, on your next UK Trip.

However the ever so tranquil county of Surrey is located only 8 miles from Trafalgar Square, London’s thronging centre.

Surrey is in the South East direction from London, and known as a Home County, Kent is to the East of Surrey, with Sussex in the South and Hampshire and Berkshire to the West of Surrey.

Surrey has been an important county for over a Millennium. Before William the Conqueror invaded from France and took control of England, AngloSaxon English Kings used to be crowned King in Surrey at Kingston-upon-Thames.

Further upstream along the River Thames is the famous Runnymede site in Surrey where King John signed the Magna Carta – the world’s first constitution.

A memorial has been erected there to commemorate this historic landmark occasion.

Hampton Court Palace was King Henry VIII Number One favourite Summer residence. He was also famous for creating The Church Of England and becoming its’ figure head by DIVINE RIGHT of course, so that he could legally get divorced from his first Queen (Catherine of Aragon). He was of course pronounced a Heretic by the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church at the Vatican in Rome.

Just as Windsor Palace is Her Majesty The Queen’s favourite place, so it was in the 16th Century that King Henry chose Hampton Palace as his Summer residence. Besides falconry and wrestling, his favourite sport was Wild Boar Hunting!).

Surrey is not one of the largest counties and still keeps its’ rural countryside nature with narrow lanes and lovely country pubs full of real life characters, very different from the neighbouring Capital City.

There are of course plenty of historic attractions for you to consider adding to your Must See List.

For example Loseley Park in Guildford, Guildford Cathedral, Hampton Court Palace not far from Richmond, Clandon Park also in Guildford, Painshill Park in Cobham, Claremont Gardens in Esher, or Polesden Lacy in Dorking, Great Fosters in Egham, Ham House and Kew Palace, Farnham Castle to name just a few.

Surrey, the birth place of Cricket, is also home to some very popular touristy attractions that your children will absolutely love ie. Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures and of course Birdworld.

Many of the towns in Surrey are also must visit destinations in their own right.

Guildford is the biggest town in Surrey County with it’s cobble stoned High Street and it’s twisting little lanes.

We recommend you pop by Guildford Castle with it’s large Stone Tower Keep and don’t forget to see the exhibition on the first floor while you are there.

The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre plays many West End Shows after they finish their London runs, and we must mention that Guildford Cathedral is home to the Guildford Philharmonic Orchestra.

From Guildford you can amply explore picturesque villages close by such as Ripley, Compton, Chilworth and Albury in South West Surrey.

One of Surrey’s loveliest villages is Farnham with its beautiful Georgian Times architecture and Farnham Castle was where many medieval Monarchs reigned supremely from with their often brutal “Olde World Ways”.

There are a lot of ancient buildings for you to wander in Godalming, and in Leatherhead or Dorking you have a selection of Cafes, Bars & Restaurants. A very popular destination for Antique Buyers and Lovers is Dorking with a good choice of Antique Stores.

Come & Visit Surrey Soon.

10 Must Do Children Events And Family Outings In London

Many children events in London are absolutely free and many can be purchased reasonably cheaply as a family package. A little planning before the vacation begins can help widen the scope of activities for your children.

Here are 10 must do children events in London.

1. London has well over 200 museums and galleries and most of them are free. Kids will love The Natural History Museum, The Science Museum and The Victoria and Albert Museum, and they are conveniently located in South Kensington.

The Natural History Museum has well over 67 million items in its collection. Look out for the skeleton and reconstruction of the extinct dodo in the Bird Gallery and in the section devoted to dinosaurs, the giant flesh-eating Tyrannosaurus rex.

The Science Museum is a fascinating place with a kid-friendly environment and plenty of hands-on exhibits which are both entertaining and educational. There are five floors with each floor looking at different aspect of technology and science using displays and interactive information. The Science Museum also has an ancient clock in the Time Measurement Gallery which is still in working order more than 600 years after its construction!

The Victoria and Albert Museum, more affectionately known as the V&A, has a vast collection of decorative and fine arts.

2. Children love to run around in parks and gardens and there are several well known parks in London. Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are adjacent to each other and together they cover an area of about 615 acres of flowers, trees and greenery.

The Serpentine is an area of entertainment and recreation, with boats for hire on the Serpentine in summer.

The Princess Diana Memorial Playground is in Kensington Gardens opposite the Queensway underground (Central Line). There are lots of children events and activities in the playground with the Pirate Ship taking centre stage. The children play area is fenced up and is guarded by security personnel.

Regent’s Park is a couple of miles north of Hyde Park. This is also a wonderfully organized park with lots of flowers and greenery. There is an Open Air Theatre in Queen Mary’s Garden, which is very popular in summer. Regent’s Park Zoo is also within the park if you fancy giving your children a treat. (It’s free with a London Pass.) Bandstand music can be heard at lunchtime during peak summer months.

3. Children events can include sightseeing on a London Pass. For a modest investment the children can enjoy free entry to over 55 sights and tourist attractions in London. These include: The London Zoo, Tower of London, Thames River Cruise, St Paul’s Cathedral, Windsor Castle, Tower Bridge Exhibition, Kensington Palace, Hampton Court Palace and many more attractions.

You simply pay the one off price for the London Pass of your choice (there are 4 durations to choose from) and then you can enter as many of the tourist attractions included on the pass without further payment.

4. For pomp and ceremony, children events should include a visit to Buckingham Palace and the Changing of the Guards. Buckingham Palace, the home of the Queen, was built in 1703. Look at the flag pole on the top of the Palace. When the Queen is in residence, the Royal Standard Flag is raised. A soldier is responsible for taking it down as soon as the Queen is away.

During summer you can visit its State Apartments (there is a charge) and see the Queen’s large garden and collection of artwork. The Changing of the Guard can be viewed for free at 11.30am every day during summer and alternate days during winter.

5. Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament are popular London landmarks and is one of the “must do” children events. The Houses of Parliament, also known as the Palace of Westminster, was built in AD 1040 by Edward the Confessor and was the main Royal residence in London until Henry VIII move to Whitehall. It is the largest Gothic Building in the world with over 1,000 rooms and two miles of corridor in it.

Guy Fawkes unsuccessfully attempted to blow up Parliament in 1606 and was tried and sentenced to death in Westminster.

Big Ben, one of London’s most famous landmarks, towers 96 metres high in the sky overlooking Westminster and is open to tours for UK residents who have made arrangements with their MPs. Unfortunately overseas visitors cannot climb the 393 steps to the top.

6.Covent Garden is a fun place not only for shoppers but also for kids. Covent Garden was originally known as Convent Garden where fruits and vegetables for the Monks of Westminster were grown. The houses around Covent Garden were intended for “gentlemen and men of ability” and up until the Great Fire of London in 1666, Covent Garden was the most fashionable London address to live at.

You can find lots of activities in London for children in this area. Street performers like jugglers, acrobats and fire-eaters are here to entertain kids and shoppers. You may even spot a celebrity or two. You can also visit Royal Opera House – home to The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet.

7. This interesting children event, if you can get free tickets, is to go for television and radio shows and be part of the studio audience. Exclusive tickets including Dancing on Ice, The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talents, The BRIT Awards and many more can be obtained by applying early for them. Your kids will love to be a part of the studio audience and this will add to their children events experiences. You can also apply forstanding room only tickets.

8. Children events can also include a visit to a city farm and your kids can enjoy a bit of rural life without leaving the city. These city farms are community led and managed projects and they are located all over London. They offer a widespread of activities to encourage kids to be part of a rural experience and learn how to look after animals and plants. Some farms may also have a riding school.

9. You can encourage your children to get involved in wildlife and nature. London has many natural areas bursting with wildlife. Get ideas for bird-watching or lend a hand gardening for wildlife. Take an opportunity to cycle amongst nature. There are lots of activities for your children to do in London Wildweb.

10. There are lots of sporting activities that goes on in London throughout the year and London’s reputation for having some of the most prestigious sports venues in the world has attracted tourists from all over the world.

With a London Pass you can take your kids for free to visit these famous London venues: Chelsea Football Club’s Stamford Bridge, Lord’s Cricket Ground, Twickenham Rugby Ground and Wimbledon Lawn Tennis.

Your kids will have the chance to experience what it feels like to run out of the player’s tunnel onto the pitch and imagine the excitement felt by the players as the crowd greets them with an almighty roar!

The UK’s historic capital is full of unique attractions and experiences that have entertained visitors for centuries, and helped London achieve the distinction of being the world’s most visited city. However, experienced visitors will know that there’s a great deal more to discover beyond the city limits, with many of the UK’s top attractions being only a short drive from the capital. Following are five suggestions for great days out near London, suitable for the whole family.

From exploring historic Windsor Castle to a fun-packed day out at Legoland, Windsor is ideally situated for family day trips out of London, less than 30 miles west of the city.

The seaside town of Brighton has always been a favourite escape for Londoners, offering relaxing views and traditional seafront entertainment on England’s south coast. Bangalore Palace – Windsor In Bangalore!

Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka, India is steadily gaining popularity in the world especially with the younger generation. However its traditional culture is well preserved. The Bangalore Palace in the very heart of the city originally belonged to Rev. Garrett, who was the Principal of Central High School. He commenced the building of the Palace in 1862. However in 1884 Chamaraja Wodeyar, Maharaja of Mysore bought the land and having been greatly inspired and touched by the Windsor Castle in England, fashioned this Palace in the same style. The construction was completed only in 1944. Therefore visitors to this site will be at first rather bemused with the Tudor style building set in a typical Indian backdrop. The Palace is complete with the famous English arches, turrets, battlements, and fortified towers. The interior of the palace consists of floral motifs, cornices, paintings and Edwardian and Victorian furnishing. The Palace has also built a name for itself for its exquisite wooden carvings. Following recent renovations the Palace now also boasts of stained glass in its Gothic windows. The Palace contains 35 rooms, mostly bedrooms as well as a courtyard with granite seats. There is also an elaborate ball room – Durbar Hall –with a large mounted elephant head gracing it. The sweeping landscapes around the Palace too are breathtaking and have been a popular site for many an internationally renowned music band performance. Some of these performances have included those of the Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Sting, Aerosmith and Deep Purple. The combination of all these factors culminates in an unusual experience and a wonderful tourist attraction. Of course Bangalore being the city that it is has much more to offer its visitors and the traveller seeking a Bangalore hotel would find The Gateway Hotel Residency Road Bangalore an ideal spot. With its central location this hotel provides ample comfort and luxurious amenities to keep its visitors smiling.

Hillreed Homes – New Homes In East And West Sussex

Sussex is a picturesque county in South East England bordered by Surrey to the North, Kent to the East, Hampshire to the West and coastline to the South. For local Government purposes, it is divided into East and West Sussex. The major geographical feature of both East and West Sussex are the South Downs, set to become a National Park this year. The South Downs extend about 70 miles, providing stunning scenery for walking, horse-riding, para-gliding and mountain biking. The scenery has been the subject of many a poem including those by Rudyard Kipling, Hilaire Belloc and Francis William Bourdillon.

Housing in the area is some of the most sought after in the UK – indeed some of the nation’s most famous faces such as Anita Roddick, Leo Sayer, Jon Snow, Simon Callow and Steve Coogan reside in Sussex. New homes and character properties are both available in the county to suit all tastes and requirements. Popular new developments include the Church Marks Green build, providing new homes in East Sussex . The county of Sussex is full of notable towns and villages with a variety of architecture and historical references. Most popular places to live in the County include:

Arundel lying in West Sussex, 18 miles East of Brighton. The most prominent feature of the town is its restored medieval castle, originating from 1068 during the reign of William the Conqueror. Arundel is also known for its plethora of antique shops and as a popular televison venue – it has been used to portray Windsor Castle in Doctor Who, The Young Victoria and The Madness of King George.

Brighton is a seaside city on the coast of East Sussex. As well as its thriving culture, Brighton is best known for its West Pier, Royal Pavillion, beaches and infamous shopping lanes which are perhaps the best venue for shopping outside of London. Every May, the city hosts the Brighton Festival – the largest arts festival in the UK after Edinburgh’s.

Chichester is a cathedral city in West Sussex and is the centre for culture in the region, with a Festival Theatre and numerous art galleries. Nearby, Chichester Harbour provides excellent opportunities for watersports. The city was built inside Roman Walls and houses the Chichester Cross in its centre – a one time market site, standing at the intersection of the four main roads of the city. Like Brighton, Chichester is a thriving shopping venue with a strong cafe culture.

Midhurst is a small market town rated the second best town in England by Country Life magazine. Despite its small size, Midhurst houses the estate of Cowdray Park, one of the most premier polo venues in the world, hosting the international Veuve Cliquot Gold Cup every summer. The town has a Tudor heart with the circa 1430 Spread Eagle Hotel having accommodated Queen Elizabeth I. The town also holds the ruins of one of England’s great houses; although ravaged by fire, the ruins have been re-opened to the public following a major preservation project and provide a romantic backdrop to the polo grounds.

Windsor castle defence

Windsor castle defence
Is this Self-Defence?

Hello,
I was just wondering, if you are walking down a street and suddenly some man starts shouting at you, chasing you… Can you just whack him in the face before he actually touches you (because at the end of the day, he was going to attack you).

Also, I was in Windsor Castle not so long ago. As you go through security, theres a sign saying ‘No knives with a blade longer than 3 inches”… (So I would have been allowed in with a 2.5 inch blade? =S)
Anyway, assuming then that these are legal, can you hold one on you at all times? And even use it in self defence? (2.5 inches doesnt seem that long, but it can do a lot of damage if you go for the eyes).

Whether you decide to believe me or not, I really am just wondering and none of these situations reflect anything to do with me!

Thanks!

In the UK there is a defense available for assault called self defence. This also allows to make a “pre-emptive” strike, which would fit the situation you describe. You can even kill in self defence if it is reasonable given the situation (ie to prevent serious harm or death to yourself or another). You would need to show that you honestly believed the guy was going to attack you or another person and also be sure a reaosnable person looking at this situation would probably feel the same way. You are NOT obliged to try to run away or avoid the situation if somebody approaches you acting in a violent manner. The law specifically mentions this.

In the UK carrying ANY fixed blades in public is illegal (ie kitchen knives, lock knives). FOLDABLE blades under 7.62 cm (3 inches) long are fine so long as you don’t intend to use then to cause harm. This means ALL knives with a blade over 3 inches long are illegal in public so the sign was correct.

You are allowed to carry small foldable pen-knives but if you tell a police officer it is for self defence then they may consider it an offensive weapon ( a separate offence to “bladed artice”) and you could be arrested.

However, should you be attacked you can use anything to hand (including weapons) to defend yourself if the situation warrants it. This includes anything lying around or your pen-knife if its in your pocket. Just tell the police afterwards you carry it for reasons other than self defence (I dunno, DIY?) and you will be fine. Stabbing someone in the eye repeatedly because they slapped you then ran off would not be fine…..

EDIT – Gypsy – is that the law in the USA? You can’t defend yourself until they assault you? What if somebody pointed a loaded gun at you? Would you have to wait for them to shoot you or would you be allowed put in a pre-emtpive stike before they killed you?

Buckinghamshire – Uk’s Loveliest County

Buckinghamshire is England’s loveliest inland county.

It is bound in the North by Northamptonshire, in the East by Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Middlesex, to the South by Middlesex and Berkshire and to the West by Oxfordshire.

It has an area of around 577151 acres and a population of 176323 approximately.

Intersected by the Chiltern Hills which extend North East from Oxfordshire to Bedfordshire, the highest point is Wendover Hill at 905 feet.

The countryside here has beautiful woods consisting chiefly of oak and beech and to the South it has lovely grazing farmland. The fertile ‘Vale of Aylesbury’ lies at the center of this county, verdant with rich meadows and pasturage. Further North the heavy arable land is now being brought into steam cultivation and with excellent crops of wheat, beans etc.

Farms generally speaking are of small size and are quite surprisingly leased on a yearly tenure. Pigs and calves are also commonly reared and a great number of ducks are also sent yearly to the London Metropolis from the neibourhood of Alyesbury for consumption .

The quantity of butter, besides cream cheese that are sent annually to market, average between 4,000,000 to 5,000,000 lbs.

There are a number of historical houses in Buckinghamshire, like Ascott House, Bletchley Park, National Trust, Stowe House and Waddesdon House.

Many battles like The battle of Aylesbury during the Civil War took place in Buckinghamshire.

Here if you go to the location of the county showground near the village of Weedon, the site takes Campers, many activities and also long stay carparking. Many activities like Circus Skills, African and Japanese Drums, Quad Bikes, Climbing Wall, Army Assault Course, Laser Shooting, Brass Rubbing, Face Painting, Kite Making, Birds of Prey, Archery, Shooting, Air Related Activities, Human Table Football, Velcro Football, Inflatable Twister and Aladdin’s Palace.

In this camp just taking part in it and you’ll be joining 50,000 Scouts across UK.

Buckinghamshire has a beautiful countryside, an excellent accommodation, fabulous food for everybody and exiting events and Buckinghamshire is very well connected by the motorway network. The A41 road links the heart of the county to central London in an hour approx.

Buckinghamshire is a home county and many say it is easily THE Loveliest – with its Chiltern Hills and Beech Woods , the beautiful River Thames and many rolling acres of Aylesbury Vale makes it a place for visitors to enjoy.

Lovers of historic houses are spoilt for choice. Selections include magnificent Rothschild Treasure House of Waddeston Manor, Benjamin Disraeli’s home at Hughenden Manor the 13th Century Chenies Manor and the stunning Cliveden Gardens high on the banks of the Thames.

Buckinghamshire is one of the most fortunate English counties as it has the highest number of National Trust properties open to the public.

How would you take a good photo of a firework display?

I’m going to watch the fireworks @ legoland tonight and want to be able to get some cool photos. To get a good picture what setting on the camera would I use. I know all cameras are different but some proffesional standard photography tips would be great. Would I have the flash on or off?
Thanks

I’m here to give you your first right answer. First, use a tripod. Set your camera on manual everything. Small aperture, low ISO, set your shutter on bulb. Aim your lens towards the blasts, and set your focus manually on infinity. Press the shutter for the duration of the blasts, at least a few seconds. Around 5 seconds is good, but I’ve taken some fireworks shots near the end of one blast, waiting for another, that lasted longer than 10 seconds and came out fine.

I will link you to my fireworks shots so you can see what you can expect using this technique.

Oh yes, and flash off, definately!

Hotel Room Service Lyrics Youtube

There are so many parts to this fabulous city, that it will be hard to determine what San Diego hotel rooms are going to be the best deals. Many factors need to be taken into consideration, such as; the hotel accommodations, services and amenities offered by the hotel, dining choices, if there are any special rates, and which ones are located near popular attractions.

Accommodations- The decision on what type of room is needed should be easy enough to make. Most hotels have the option of choosing between suites with one or two king-sized beds, or one bed and a pull-out couch. There is usually just one bathroom in the smaller rooms, but some suites also have balconies, refrigerators, microwaves, and television. If necessary, there are also rooms that have wheelchair accessibility. Family rooms often have one large bed and a set of bunk beds, which is very exciting for the kids.

Services and Amenities- If the trip to San Diego is for business, be sure to check on the availability of access to fax and copy machines. They usually offer the rental of audio and visual equipment and have an excellent variety of meeting rooms. Wireless high-speed Internet services are almost always offered, as well as computer use, in case an extra is needed.

For families, there are numerous hotels with activities for children, kids’ menus, and even video rentals of movies that children enjoy. Cribs are available for babies and toddlers, as well as high chairs. These can make traveling with very small children a smoother process. Airport transportation can be a huge plus, especially when there is a large family traveling to the hotel. It’s hard to find a taxi big enough to carry everyone, plus the luggage.

Added services provided by most hotels include; an ATM in the lobby, complimentary breakfast and/or beverage area, multi-lingual staff members, room service, and safety deposit boxes. There is often the option for baggage storage when check out comes way before the tram to the airport is due to leave. For general personal cleanliness, some hotels have barber shops and laundromats included inside the hotel. Pools and fitness rooms are found in just about every popular hotel in San Diego, even water parks for kids and relaxing Jacuzzis for the adults.

Dining Choices- Many hotels will have at least one restaurant, while others will also have a pub or multiple eateries to choose from. There is usually room service that can be ordered between mid-morning and 10pm. If there is a strong desire to eat outside the restaurant, the main desk generally has a map or a listing of places nearby to eat at.

Specials and Discounts- Some hotels will give one night at a discounted price for booking multiple days in a row. Other places will offer packages for sites in the city in combination with a night’s stay; such as a trip to the local zoo, a night at the drive-in theater, or a trip to Sea World. There are also packages that include the whole family, even the pet or pets of the house can stay at the hotel with the family. Booking rooms way in advance will usually generate a discounted price. It’s always a good idea to check on what might be available for a discounted rate.

Attractions- Finding a hotel that is in the center of things is fantastic, but not always feasible. The best way to handle this is to make a list of sights to see in order of importance. There are many hotels that are near multiple sights. There are also some that can easily provide transportation to some of the hot spots. Top attractions in San Diego are; the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World, Legoland, Balboa Park, San Diego Harbor, Old Town San Diego, Mission Bay Park, La Jolla, and the many magnificent beaches.

Booking any of the San Diego hotel rooms can usually be accomplished over the internet or phone. Both are equally as easy and can be done any time of day. When booking online, there’s a section to fill out with the dates of the desired stay and availability is checked once this information is entered. After the dates, number of people, and the type of room are filled in and submitted, the total cost is listed. If this is acceptable, a credit card is used to secure the room, but won’t be charged until after the stay.

IRAQ HANGS OBSERVER JOURNALIST

MEETING WITH FATE

A crushed vibrant life….

He told me that he would go on his own if necessary. Six months later he was dead – a disfigured corpse just about recognizable which betrayed the loneliness of those last weeks that led to his life being, crudely and obscenely removed from his body.

Farzhad Bazoft was an affectionate, very good looking boy in his middle twenties, fresh from Iran and intent on making a future for himself – a future away from a mother country he loved but which the Authorities of the day deprived him from calling his own. His parents, still in Iran, came from a family capable of supporting itself and which had managed to get its children out into the free world. None of them faced going back after their studies, with any degree of aspiration and one – Farzhad was never to see any of them again.

He stood defiantly in the lounge of my Kensington house where he stayed as often as he wanted treating me like a long lost uncle and making few demands that I was not willing to give him. He asked for my camera and I denied helping in this respect, knowing that he would interpret it as a indication of my acceptance of his planned trip to Baghdad. The mysterious figure who was to go with him, an Egyptian journalist by the name of Darwich, had pulled out and Farzhad was adamant. “I have been invited by the Ministry of Information of Iraq”. I could not disagree, but I warned him of my very intimate knowledge of the weird and wonderful ways in which the diplomatic and intelligence services worked. He had already been arrested and pressurised to admit his connection with the British Intelligence services in Cairo or Algers. I have always been interested in substance and not in detail but I remember that he was accused of spying and that he managed to be got out eventually. Farzhad wrote about what he knew and pestered me for material whenever he run dry. Once he came in foaming at the mouth and showing me a copy of The Observer ranting about the abuse of the free press because Tiny Rolands had utilized it to make a scathing attack on Al Fayed, the Harrods owner who had beat him to the purchase of the famous shop. To write for British Newspapers you have to be in the right place at the right time and be lucky enough to get an editor pounce on material he or she wanted at the time and which suited the editoral policy. Opinions, however gifted and well written, were thrown aside in favour of things that fitted the bill. I found that out when I wrote for agencies on subjects that I was particularly knowledgeable about. I also found that anything of any controversial worth (in my opinion) was wheedled out and the texts made to say whatever the editor or advisors wanted it to say. One classical comment, was “We want facts, not comments…..” As a long standing member of the Commonwealth Press Union with a ticket to meet the rich, the powerful and the famous, it did not take me long to work out what made society tick and all too often came close to shadowy figures who asked for favours which I was not prepared to give and who worked away with great diligence on my weakness. I was therefore quite often dined and wined by people determined to make you miss them and build them into your lives. Of course whereas they were every inch as exciting and enjoyable as they made themselves to be, I had no difficulty in seeing the shadows behind them and the purpose behind their madness. I knew just how reptilic and ungrateful the intelligence services were (from dumped elderly agents) and the implications of their requests when rich and influential people like myself were singled out for cosy talks and loose compliments. It made my hackles rise with the implied disrespect for my life and safety. I had therefore very deep suspicions of potential manipulation of Farzhads rampant needs both from the services and diplomatic elements working in their periphery. I did not suspect the editor of the Observer, Donald Trelford who appeared to be taking a deep interest in his work (bearing in mind that Farzhad could barely write reasonable English). He was however learning fast and short of strightening out a sentence or two, his general comments were appreciably consolidating. Trelford was an interesting character, but I could not but see a typical tolerated editor looking for material on which to hang establishment aspirations. The disgust about the sizeable section of The Observer, written or dictated by Rowlands against Al Fayed, spoke volumes about so called editorial integrity and perhaps Farzhad had been denied print of more articles than I was aware of. Farzhad spoke of checking out potential bacteriological contamination of a recent site in Baghdad which had been the scene of a mysterious explosion worthy of inspection and he said he experts out there willing to help. I could not understand why teams of experts throughout the world had not sent their representatives under the auspices of the UN and or why the world press had not asked for admission. Yet Farzhad seemed to have obtained an exclusive (and I thought suicidal invitation if he even remotely got hold of any damning evidence). “You are mad and the whole thing smacks of a manipulated attempt to get you there for some other reason. “ I can do a good story here and I need to get on with my work.” I challenged him then “Have you been approached by intelligence services to do work for them or perhaps by others working for them ? His response was emphatic. “Never ! Do you think I´m an idiot ? I know what they get up to and after what I went through last time in Algeria when they thought I was a spy, I would never allow myself to be associated with things like that”. He did not convince me, but I realized later that he was was not aware of the very many different ways the agencies worked. I suspected that those who had invited him hoped that they would convince Farzhad that they would give the Iraqui Government a clean bill of health or perhaps usefully indict him. Those who had asked him to come across, it would appear, were not totally in favour of the ruthless Hussein who was already producing a reactionary political situation in his country. However, despite sewing it all up in my mind and making a few enquiries from journalistic contacts, I was anxious to ensure that I found him other material to dissuade him from taking on such a perilous journey. I was informed (in the same shadowy way that I often learnt of things which for some peculiar reasons I was supposed to be informed about), that Farzhad had obtained soil samples and that he had successful passed them on to British personnel prior to his arrest, kangaroo court, torture and eventual partial or singular execution.

Signs of Success and a taste of what was to come

Farzhad had by then obtained an expense account and treated me to dinners that I had previously always paid for, refusing to allow me to pay despite the fact, as I learnt later, that he had not paid his mortgage for some time. Friends of his his often came to my house and I loved their Arabic stimulating company, feeling as I always did the exciting difference of their perceptions and spontaneous ability to make the business of living so simple and meaningful. Farshad was not typical. He came from a Jewish background and had more in common with that culture than the Arab one which obviously, as a Persian, he was not connected with. Maybe, therein lay the determined attempt to show Iraq up and his reckless bid for British fame. Despite all of that, I still think he could have been spared and perhaps even saved by the warring Iron Lady who said “she was not for turning” Farzhad had British status, as far as I knew, but I suspect that he was discarded as just another one of those Middle Easterners hwo made claims on British protection and who did not qualify for rule bending. I endorsed this in my mind when the Press found material to damage his integrity after the execution.

I would rather forget the night I confronted him with the horrors of what could be ahead of him, – especially after what followed.

We were quite close to the The Windsor Castle pub and I often went there for the cosmopolitan atmosphere created by the huge variety of people with such diverse ethnic origins. This was Holland Park and Notting Hill Gate after all. I was not prepared to hear what he told me once inside the milling fold. “Be careful, I think I´m being watched…. Did you see the guy outside ? I know he is Arab probably Algerian and I think he just came in to see where we were standing.” I needed very little bidding to wish I was somewhere else, but if he was correct and he were going to be ambushed, it was safer inside. It was probably one of the worst experiences of my life since I could not understand why the man who had come in had scoured the room for heaven knows what and did not go to the bar for a drink. He went out looking behind his back and I had a peculiar sensation that it was all too real for comfort. I challenged Farzhad again “and you want to go into situations that produce this….? “ He did not seem the slightest perturbed and I felt as if he was involving me in something that he had no right to. “I think I am being followed for some reason, but I don´t think it is more than that….” Little did I know then that I would, after his death, be considered Thatcher´s Spymaster and that I would have the world cameras at my doorstep after just having been told that he had been unceremoniously hanged in the presence of Sadhham Hussein himself. I was even accused of having recruited, trained and prepared him for the task ahead. The crestfallen, rag that faced the interviewers that morning was hardly an 007 but I hope the outrage and sense of futility came across. During the solemn and almost State like funeral in Fleet Street and final burial in Highgate cemetery, the state presence permeated the atmosphere with a sense of guilt that I could not fail to undertand. Peculiar introductions noticed by our close circle of friends, pointed towards a dimension of other perhaps professional friends who wanted to tell me more. There was no need to, but as things stand today, perhaps the Press may have cause to analyse its own function and maybe make a final effort to become what it was designed to be initially in the mantle of democracy – a source of reliable information and an active instrument of moderation and criticism of public manipulation and abuse. Print for its own sake or shareholder amusement makes very little sense especially when it dominates a market and excludes others less flirted with by editorially conscious advertisers.

A Potentially good investigative reporter.

My staff called him Buzz Off , from his surname, because his calls were usually designed to get hold of me there and then. They all knew that he was a friend and they liked him, but his constant telephone calls amidst so much to do were infuriating to them. I also found him very time consuming, but he was “at home” with me and he had the uncanny ability to make me feel that that was were I wanted to be. I had not met all of his many friends outside the Arab circle, but I was to meet them later, during the campaign to release him outside the Iraqui embassy and after that, almost as members of my own family. One particular girl, and one he had often quizzed me about who worked for the Observer, was Ruth Miller. Many a time I had tried to reason with Farzhad that if she continued to go out with her childhood boyfriend that she obviously did not feel enough to want to return his attentions. “Let her be” I had chided him. “The last thing you want is more problems especially of that sort..” I had had my own share of broken relationships and impossible dreams, especially among the high fliers and cynicism had set in well before my thirties. I could only stand in silent amazement, holding this girl´s hand before the gruesome sight of a man we both loved in different ways, in a box in a cramped dimly lit room resembling a scene from a horror movie. His neck betrayed every mark of the fibres that made up the rope that had robbed him of his life and to which he had surrendered with such dignity and bravery. We felt his body in an attempt to determine whether the final cause of death had been the actual lynching or whether by demanding his body, we had accelerated his final removal from the world he was so capable of loving. Farzhad was a very approachable person, but difficult to influence. He disagreed with most things but always looked at you from the corner of his eye to determine whether it altered his relationship with him. Throughout the years, he disappeared for a while only to turn up with new ideas and always silent about the lost periods. He spoke about a couple in the outskirts whom, like me he had adopted. And with whom he spent a great deal of his time. I was to learn from a vindicative sadly manipulated press that he had been to jail once for demands with menaces in a bank. It was an obvious, however true, attempt to mitigate British Government fear of public reaction for the lost opportunities to save his life. Thatcher, as always, returned Foreign threats with scorn and in the light of modern versions of similar dramas in other countries, she was negligent. The connection between her son´s business involvement with the Iraqui Government and the Missile launcher has never been properly investigated and the manner in which it was all handled, leaves a very bitter taste in the mouth. Whatever, all our attempts to soften the butcher of Baghdad came to nothing, including a personal letter and a determined conversation with Embassy officials. I knew and told the campaigners the day before, that Farzhad would not survive the night. The Embassy officials had just put out a message that told me so..”When it is all over, we can perhaps all get down to reason……” Sacrificial victims could not be more clearly defined. Farzhad was killed to spite Thatcher and as promised, sent in a box. What still undermines my strength is that like myself, Ruth, felt that he was still alive after the declaration of his execution. She had a gasping voice phone call and appeared to recognize the overtones. I also had something similar, but there was a rather evil, self destructive, ex-employee who had abused my friendship and the heavy breathing on the phone for some reason, provoked his repulsive image. The security services no doubt tracked the call but I was not informed. The strange thing however, was that both Ruth and I and later, another of his close friends, a charismatic designer with whom I was to establish a close friendly relationship, felt, like we all did, that sense of a life cord that had not yet been entirely severed. By demanding the repatriation of the body, we may have accelerated his final demise. One day whilst searching internet for details of Iranian and Chinese state depravities, I watched a particular photograph of a figure with his back to the camera on the ground but with enough profile to recognize him. It must have been taken just after the lynching. His right arm was curled round the back of his head in a sleeping posture and he may have still been alive then.

What a pity that I should have to die before the world knows the truth”.

Farzad’s grave, the site of yearly gatherings by friends and family who lovingly share food and drink over it, states what he said before being pushed through a grim, ungodly, door – shortly after having been woken up by the ill prepared Consul who told him that he had half and hour left. He lies next to one of his press mates, and just about opposite the redoubtable Karl Marx who did what all ideologists do well – divide and destroy innocent victims of lesser intelligence and no capability.

Six Things Every Visitor To Carlsbad California Must Do

Carlsbad is a picturesque seaside village ideally located 30 miles north of San Diego.  Here you will find irresistible sandy beaches, three unique lagoons, two luxurious resorts and more than two dozen fine hotels.  Visitors love walking around the “village center†that offers outstanding shopping and dozens of great restaurants for every taste and pocketbook.  There is a never-ending array of things to do in Carlsbad – this report shares six things every outdoor-loving visitor MUST do.

1.  One of the most beautiful sites on the West Coast, Carlsbad’s famous Flower Fields are transformed into fifty acres of visual splendor each spring from March through early May, framed by the magnificent vistas of the sparkling Pacific ocean.  Children can run around and blow off steam while adults linger and enjoy the quiet on the color-filled hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

2.  Batiquitos Lagoon is a coastal salt marsh with tidal mud flats – one of the few remaining wetlands in California.  Many native plants and more than 185 species of birds can be seen at the lagoon.  The lagoon is a destination for nature lovers of all types – bird watchers, artists, joggers, naturalists, hikers and plant lovers love the three miles of trails – trails renown as quiet places for exercise, meditation or simply contemplation. Free naturalist-led tours are offered some weekdays and most weekends.

3.  Legoland is a theme park designed especially for children – but adults enjoy it, too.  The park is clean, pleasantly landscaped and alive with color.  There are plenty of rides and attractions plus free play areas where the kids can run around and blow off steam.  Oh, and if it’s hot, there’s no shortage of places for them to get wet and refreshed.  Parents appreciate the healthy café with tasty, healthy food and snack choices that the kids will enjoy – without emptying your wallet.

4.  The tree-lined village of downtown Carlsbad is the perfect place to walk, shop, dine and sight-see.  Find a parking spot and set off on foot to explore Carlsbad Village where you will find unusual boutiques, eclectic antique shops, lovely jewelry shops, European toy stores, an amazing array of clothing stores, quaint pubs and architecturally significant historic homes.  A well-known landmark is the historic Alt Karlsbad Hanse Hous, site of the first mineral water spa, a mainstay of Carlsbad Village since the 1880s.

5.  Carlsbad Village offers many restaurants from the very casual to quite upscale. Le Passage on State Street is a local favorite – a delightful French bistro with outdoor dining.  Fish House Vera Cruz is a well known and popular family-style seafood restaurant with a marvelous fish market.  There are great bars and night spots that get fun and lively, especially on summer weekends,

6.  The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Nature and Discovery Center features a native garden with nearly a thousand California native plants of more than 50 different species.  Visitors can walk short trails lined with educational panels explaining Agua Hedionda Lagoon and its flora and fauna.  Seven species of sage, five varieties of Manzanita, five varieties of wild lilac, and a selection of coffeeberry, buckwheat, currants, honeysuckle and fuschia grow in the garden.   The Discovery Center features many interesting and informative exhibits offering glimpses into the lives of Native Americans who once inhabited the area.

My friend and I are going to Legoland (Billund, Denmark) from Copenhagen and need to know the most affordable way to get there.

Also, how long does it take to get there via train or car?

I have to say that one of my favourite places to travel to for a weekend break is London. The capital of England is steeped in history and there are many places to visit. There are attractions for everyone, young and old and in this article I will be writing about some of the one’s that I would recommend people to visit.

Here are my top favourite tourist attractions in London:

1. The London Eye

2. The London Dungeon

3. Madame Tussauds

4. The Tower of London

5. The London Aquarium

6. Kew Gardens

7. Buckingham Palace

8. The Houses of Parliament

9. London Zoo

10. The Imperial War Museum

11. The Science Museum

12. St Paul’s Cathedral

13. The Natural History Museum

14. Hampton Court

15. The Houses of Parliament

I would also recommend people to take a boat trip along the Thames; this gives you a good view of part of the city and is a break from all of the walking.

For children, Legoland is only a short distance away in the famous district of Windsor. My children love Legoland and insist on going back each and every year. Windsor Castle is worth a visit while you are in this area.

London offers ample shopping opportunities with some very famous stores, for example Harrods.

My wife also likes to go to a show in London. They have some of the best shows at different times of the year including; Grease, Cats and Annie. You can not beat a meal at a top restuarant followed by going to a top show.

I hope you have a great time in London.

The artistry, style and the design of a fireplace, the mantelpiece above it and the fire screen before it generally represent the cultural tastes of the times and the family that gathers around it.

The sleek, decorative and intricate designs of tools and sets should generally synchronize with the fireplace and screen.

The fireplace tool sets are made of various materials such as iron, brass, copper, bronze, nickel, steel and so on. Some of these tool sets represent the spirit of ancient and colonial times while others go with the modern tastes. Antique fireplace tool sets create a sense of nostalgia among the family members and their guests.

If you log on to the internet, you will come across attractive decorative tool sets that lend charm to the area and enhance its beauty and ambience.

You may, fore example, find a 5-piece solid satin antique brass fireplace tool set attached with ball handles. The tools may include the stand, shovel, tongs, broom and poker.

If you wish to buy a wall mounted fireplace set of tools in vintage style, you may find several designs in the market. You can land upon one based on a casually elegant 18th century design. It may create an aura of those times and bring an element of sophistication to the fireplace.

Fireplace tools are generally fitted with hooks at their ends and are neatly fixed on the hooks of beautiful hangers.

Some tool sets have four or five fireplace tools and are available in durable graphite powercoat finish. They are generally made from wrought iron. They can synchronize well with the fireplace screens made by the same manufacturer.

Vintage fireplace tool sets are a class apart. You may land upon a tool set hand forged in Europe. Vintage tools have exquisitely detailed decorative designs.

Vintage fireplace tool sets are generally available in bronze finish. They are coated in graphite powder. Their dimensions may vary from piece to piece. Generally vintage tool sets have four slots that allow the tools to slip in smoothly.

The designs of such tool sets are generally inspired by the naturalistic carvings and the architectural ornamentation on old master pieces like 17th century Windsor Castle.

Hand forged fireplace tool sets are another option for buyers with classy tastes. One such tool set is available in twisted rope design. It is a 31 inch tall tool set made from vintage iron. Its base has an elegant penny foot motif. Some suppliers offer free shipping to any destination in the United States.

How to choose a fireplace tool set for your home?

Before you buy a tool set, you should look around for other decorative metal pieces in your room. What metal/s your lamps, picture frames, candle sticks and other metal accessories are made of?

There may be silver, steel, chrome and pewter pieces. Also take a look at your room furniture. Does it have chrome or stainless steel accent? If so, you need to buy a silver-toned fireplace tool sets It will lend a perfect charm to your room.

Some persons do not like cluttered appearance of their room. They love sleek and contemporary look. If your room reflects a modern life style, you should opt for steel, chrome or pewter accents instead of brass, copper, wrought iron tool sets You may also consider silver-toned tools sets.

If you have formal or traditional style room accessories such as silver tea sets, you may opt for a brushed silver or nickel tool set.

In case your room has no reflective surfaces such as mirrors, shiny glass or silver or brass ware and needs some sparkle, you may consider buying a silver toned tool set. It will brighten up the room by lending it just the right kind of light-reflecting feature that your room needs.

A brief history on Stonehenge

Stonehenge is located in Wiltshire, about 2 miles west of Amesbury and 8 miles north of Salisbury. It is one of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world. Archaeologists actually believe that the standing stones were erected around 2200 BC and the surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which constitute the earliest phase of the monument, have been dated to about 3100 BC. Currently Stonehenge is owned by the Crown and managed by English Heritage

Visitors to Stonehenge

Stonehenge is probably the most important prehistoric monument in the whole of Britain and has attracted visitors from earliest times. It stands as a timeless monument to the people who built it. There are many Stonehenge Tours and these are run by various companies including Evan Evans. Tours to Stonehenge originate out of London and the tour can incorporate other elements of London Sightseeing Tours. Currently, more than 800,000 people a year go through the turnstiles to see it, while at least another 200,000 stand at the roadside and peer through the fence. Millions glimpse the stones as they drive past on the A303 and A344 on their way to or from London or the South West.

How long does it take to Tour Stonehenge?

A tour of Stonehenge is relatively short, it is the travel between that can take time which is why Stonehenge Tours tend to incorporate tours to Bath or/and Windsor as all three can be seen in a day with a good guide and transport. A Sightseeing Tour from Evan Evans can see you picked up at your London Hotel around 8:30am and returned back at around 7pm and in that time you could have visited Stonehenge, the Royal Baths and Windsor Castle.

When is a good time to visit?

Spring 16 Mar to 31 May – 09.30 – 18.00

Summer 1 Jun to 31 Aug – 09.00 – 19.00

Autumn 1 Sept to 15 Oct – 09.30 – 18.00

Winter 16 Oct to 15 Mar – 09.30 – 16.00

Boxing Day and New Year’s Day

10.00 – 16.00

What can I expect to pay?

The prices below are for the individual tickets if you go outside of an organised tour to look around Stonehenge, the sightseeing tours mentioned previously are priced differently as they will include all travel to and from the attractions and also include entrance fees and tour guide fees.

Adult £6.50

Child (5 – 15) £3.30

Concession (student, pensioner) £5.20

Family Ticket (2 adults + up to 3 children) £16.30

Legoland Hill Train

Legoland California is an amusement park based on the Lego themed building toys and is located in the beautiful southern California coastal town of Carlsbad. The park is divided into nine themed areas, each with their own adventures and rides. These themed areas within the Legoland California Park are; Land Of Adventure, Dino Island, the Imagination Zone, Pirate Shores, Castle Hill, Fun Town, Explore Village, and Miniland USA. The first area that you pass through from the main gate is called The Beginning.  Each of these areas has their own adventures, shows, and rides.

Seeing as The Beginning is at the entrance to the park you would expect someone special to greet you. You won’t be disappointed! A huge red dinosaur named Bronte is the official greeter. He is nine feet tall, 34 feet long, and made entirely of Lego bricks. The Big Shop and The Market are also part of the beginning. The Big Shop is an 8,000 square foot Lego store and is advertised as being the biggest and most complete Lego store in the United States. They will also ship your purchases to any destination in the world. The Market is just a short distance away and offers refreshments such as fresh bakery products, fruit juices, sodas, and gourmet coffees including cappuccinos and espresso.

Now that you’ve bought your Lego gifts and had a cold drink or a coffee you’re ready to continue your Legoland California adventure. There are over 50 attractions, shows and rides awaiting you. Some rides have age requirements with three years old being the minimum and height requirements from 34″ and up.  Remember that at Legoland California, The Beginning is indeed the beginning of your fun filled adventure!

Originally from the Texas Panhandle, I am semi-retired and now live and work with my son, a mile high in the Arizona mountains. Our online Lego store, Toy Building Bricks, can be found at http://toybuildingbricks.com and sells everything related to Lego toy building sets. Blythewood SC Real Estate

Blythewood, South Carolina, is a suburb of Columbia and is conveniently located about 20 miles Northeast of the City of Columbia. Blythewood has served as a “last stop” before the 75 mile drive to Charlotte, NC on Interstate 77, as it did in the mid 1800’s for the railroad. Locals pride themselves on the towns quaint setting and charming neighborhoods. Just recently the Town of Blythewood created a new master plan to construct a multi million-dollar community park to service residents and maintain the country-like reputation that Blythewood is known for.

New developments are becoming popular in Blythewood and offer a variety of amenities and unique characteristics that keep this small town consistent to its original landscape. Many business parks and commercial real estate developments, such as Montgomery Ridge, have maintained the beauty of large estates while incorporating the ongoing changes within the community. Residential real estate developments in Blythewood have also tried to maintain low-density country living. Much of the Real Estate for sale in Blythewood consists of large parcels, equestrian farms, waterfront properties and golf course lots. In relation to homes for sale in Columbia, Blythewood has many differences that Columbia Neighborhoods may not offer. Here are a few that are popular and well known:

Longcreek Plantation:

Neighborhoods like Longcreek Plantation offer 1-4 acre homesites with resort style amenities such as golf, swimming, horseback riding, fishing and tennis within the community. Although Longcreek is broken into several neighborhoods, it began as one development in the mid 1970’s. The focal point of Longcreek Plantation is Lake Columbia. This is the lake that splits Windemere Golf Course and the Columbia Country Club. Longtown Road, which is the outer band of Longcreek Plantation, consists of a mix of older and newer homes with restrictive covenants prohibiting lot sizes to be split into less than 2 acres. Many of the traditional and contemporary homes in this section contain 4-10 acres and are now in high demand. With the proximity to Northeast Columbia and Fort Jackson, it is no wonder that this is a popular destination for visitors and locals. Neighborhoods that fall within Longcreek Plantation neighborhood include Windemere, Runnymede, Fox Meadow, Westlake Farms, Westlake Woods, Club Colony, Club Cottages, Crescent Lake and The Greens. Home prices have a broad range and homes listed today average just under $400,000.

Cobblestone Park:

Originally called The University Club, Cobblestone Park has become a new sensation for Blythewood. Located in the heart of Blythewood, this 700-acre + development offers a plush living environment. The main difference between Longcreek Plantation and Cobblestone Park is that it is filled with new construction of custom homes and small lot sizes. The golf course is the main attraction of this area spanning across the entire improved development and once was home to “Monday after the Masters”. There is still an abundant supply of lots for sale on the golf course with some interior lots that have fallen as low as $20,000. Today the average lot price is around $80,000(of the 75 listed on the MLS today) and of the 23 MLS home listings, the average is just above $400,000. In addition to foreclosed lots, there are also a few high-end custom foreclosed homes in this golf community.

Crickentree:

Crickentree is another Blythewood neighborhood that is a diamond in the rough. Initially developed as Blythewood Plantation in the 1980’s, Crickentree has undergone several exchanges of ownership. It is now officially named The Golf Club of South Carolina at Crickentree and is owned by the same company that owns The Country Club of SC in Florence, SC. In Crickentree you will find custom homes from about $375,000 to nearly $2M in this ongoing development. The challenging 18-hole course also offers some golf front property for sale. Amenities fall slightly short of other developments in the area, but with the new YMCA and the residential development of Lake Carolina neighboring Crickentree, you’ll likely find anything that you need minutes from the entrance gates of Crickentree. Crickentree offers more of a traditional neighborhood setting with the benefits of golf.

Ashley Oaks:

Ashley Oaks is quite different from the other neighborhoods because it is not geared toward the golf community. I would say that it is a highly desired community with modest homes. A well-known local developer, created this neighborhood in a similar fashion that his other developments are known for. His image of a suburban Blythewood may be one of the contributing factors of Blythewood’s popularity. He incorporates quality and affordability for buyers of a median income. Ashley Oaks is filled with a handful of local builders that have built quality homes throughout the years. The lot sizes here are probably more comparable to that of neighborhoods in Columbia, SC. The design of the neighborhood and the minimal, yet logical, greenspace makes for an inviting environment. Homes for sale in Ashley Oaks today are listed on the MLS starting around $250,000 and up to $545,000. Many of the homes top 3500 SF and are constructed of brick with a crawl space foundation. The neighborhood is located off of Fulmer Road and is truly one of the hidden treasures in the community.

Brian Hunt is a Columbia SC Real Estate Broker specializing in Residential Land and Homes in Blythewood SC and the surrounding Columbia SC real estate market.

Legoland weekend deals

without comments

Legoland California continues to post excellent numbers for both Legoland and their new Sea Life Aquarium, one of several attractions the park has added over the past few years.

“I think we really have an advantage,” said Legoland’s Julie Estrada. “We’re geared to two to 12-year-olds and parents will spend money on their kids.”

The numbers no doubt have been bolstered by the addition of the Sea Life Aquarium with its 36 displays enclosed in a mammoth 36,000-square-foot, two-story building. Opened late summer 2008, the aquarium contains more than 250,000 gallons of water – 200,000 of which are devoted to the Lost City of Atlantis, a display featuring sharks, rays and tropical creatures all swimming in an elaborate depiction of the lost city made of – what else – legos.

We especially enjoyed the acrylic tunnel that puts you right in the middle of the tank with dozens and dozens of creatures swimming around you. It’s the best place ever to get a close up few of a sting ray – there are several and they seem to gravitate to the tunnel swimming within inches of your face.

Young visitors also will enjoy the Discovery Zone Touch Pool with its hands-on opportunity to interact with several species of sea creatures. Altogether visitors to Sea Life Aquarium will see about 200 species of sea life.

There’s a separate charge for Sea Life Aquarium but you can purchase combo tickets that make it more reasonable. The aquarium is about $19 for an adult – the combo ticket adds $10 onto the normal adult Legoland ticket of $63.

When Legoland came to the San Diego area back in 1999, it helped put the city on the theme park map. Seaworld had long tempted Los Angeles visitors – even though it is about a 90-minute drive south – but it was Legoland that now closed the deal for many families who now saw too many good reasons to ignore San Diego.

Legoland certainly has lived up to the pre-opening hype. On any given summer weekend day, you’re likely to see as many as 10,000 people enjoying the 128-acre park. The park has caught on with local residents as well, with more than 70,000 people buying annual passes to the park.

While directed at kids between 2 and 12 years of age, the park has found a way to involve parents, grandparents, teenagers and people of any age. The whole idea is to provide as much interactivity as possible. People don’t just go on rides – they’ll actually do things like build model racing cars or participate in pirate ship water fights.

They’ll also marvel at the number of creations that can be made from the lego – the basic building we oldsters knew as kids has changed a lot from the simple structures we used to create. Legoland features more than 15,000 detailed lego creations throughout the park, ranging from animals to model cities to a life-size replica of a 2006 Volvo SUV.

Legoland currently has nine fulltime model-builders who are actually paid to play with their lego blocks all day long. This type of lego building is aided by computers, but it still takes considerable talent – so much talent that one of the positions was filled recently by someone who had to compete with hundreds of applicants across the country who auditioned by making their own lego creations and then submitting themselves to a grueling gauntlet of skills testing and interviews.

Those lego creations are fascinating. If you can imagine several American cities depicted in miniature – and everything built from lego blocks – you can quickly get the idea of how intricate these lego displays are. The kids love them, and parents are amazed by them.

Legoland has continued to expand well beyond its original complement of rides and attractions, and Sea Life Aquarium is only the latest in a long list of additions. In 2006, the park added the $10 million Pirate Shores area of the park, a block of attractions featuring two new rides – Splash Battle and Treasure Falls. Splash Battle puts visitors on board miniature pirate ships each equipped with water cannons to fire at other ships and at unsuspecting spectators – although spectators can also fire back. The Treasure Falls ride is a mini-flume ride with a 12-foot drop. Both rides will get you drenched.

Water also figures big in the two attractions included in Pirate Shores – Soak-N-Sail and Swabbies Deck. The Soak-N-Sail is a maze-like playground-platform where kids are greeted with plenty of squirting water and two buckets that dump between 300 and 600 gallons of water on the participants.

Legoland is located in Carlsbad, about 30 miles north of San Diego.

AT A GLANCE

WHERE: Legoland is in Carlsbad, which is a half-hour drive north of San Diego on Interstate 5 and is one of several beach communities in North San Diego County.

WHAT: Legoland is a theme park directed at kids, ages 2 to 12, but also is quite entertaining for teenagers and adults. The rides aren’t as extreme as most theme parks, which is good news for older parents who want to go on the rides with their kids. Carlsbad is an up-and-coming vacation destination close enough to San Diego to be a good base of operations for the area.

WHEN: Any time of the year. There are fewer visitors in the fall and spring shoulder seasons.

WHY: Legoland is focused on kids, but it is entertaining for all ages. The park would be great to combine with Seaworld, making the trip to San Diego more than worth while.

HOW: For more information on Legoland, phone 760-918-LEGO or visit www.legoland.com.

What do we envisage when we think of Christmas?  It is of course first and foremost a religious Christian celebration, marking the birth of Jesus Christ. For others without the religious penchant, Christmas brings a special time of sharing with family and friends.  One thing however is for sure; Christmas is a time for enjoying age old traditions such as decorating the tree and tucking into Christmas dinner. But where did these festive traditions come from? Here we explore some of the most popular seasonal customs:

The Date
25th December: the day Jesus was born – allegedly. However, it is said that the real birth of Christ is more likely to have been in springtime. So why do we celebrate Christmas in mid- winter? One reason stems from the fourth century when Christians began celebrating Christmas in December because this was conveniently the time when pagans were observing the winter solstice, a time for new beginnings that evoked good spirit and family gatherings.

Oh Christmas tree!
How we enjoy putting up the tree and adorning it with glittering decorations! The Christmas tree can be traced back to 16th century Germany from which point it spread across Europe. However in Britain it wasn’t until Queen Victoria and Prince Albert erected the first British Christmas tree at Windsor Castle in 1850 that it started to become a popular tradition.

Father Christmas
Father Christmas is thought to be the ghost of Saint Nicholas who was said to spend the eve of Christmas day delivering gifts to the poor. The modern portrayal of Father Christmas as a rotund, red-cheeked man wearing a red suit trimmed with white fur became popular in America in the 19th century due to cartoon-style advertising campaigns featuring Santa Claus. Various myths are attached to our jovial friend such as the airborne reindeer-led sleigh; the down-the-chimney tale and of course the legend of the endless sack of presents. These stories vary between countries, each having its own take.

Christmas Dinner
Henry the VIII was the first in England to tuck into a turkey Christmas dinner. However, even by the start of the Victorian era this bird was still considered too expensive for most everyday people to enjoy. In northern England the traditional choice for Christmas dinner was roast beef whilst in the south the favourite was goose, or rabbit for those who couldn’t afford it. Turkey had become an affordable choice by the end of the 19th century and the trimmings: Brussels sprouts, Yorkshire puddings, stuffing and roast potatoes; followed soon after to make up the Christmas dinner in which we indulge with paper hat and crackers today.

Christmas is a time for bringing the family together; a time for indulging in traditions and the excitement that goes with them. The fact that the things we observe today go way back in history and the thought that generations of our ancestors were celebrating the very things we are enjoying today makes them even more poignant.

Even if you’re new to cake decorating or an engaged couple on a budget, all you need are some basic cake decorating skills or a little time to shop online. You’ll soon have a cake that has everyone wanting to take a picture!

The quickest way to gather ideas for creating a cake topper or to find the perfect one to purchase is to window shop the Internet. Search with phrases such as “funny wedding cake topper,” “wedding anniversary cake topper,” etc. If you’re not sure where to start, here are a few examples:

· Hand-blown and spun glass cake toppers. Gold highlighted and sparkly or smooth and sleek, many of these are incredibly beautiful. A cake topper depicting a bride and groom ice-skating on top of a snowflake wedding cake is one of our favorites!

· Silver, gold or Swarovski crystal monograms (and numbers for birthdays and anniversaries)

· Sporty cake toppers can depict a bride and groom aboard a sailboat, riding horseback, roaring away in his and her race cars, and… well you get the picture.

· Humorous cake toppers include figures made in cartoonish likenesses of the betrothed and the popular resin figurines with bride and groom in formal wear acting out titles such as “The Tiff” and “Now I Have You.”

· Vintage cake toppers can be quite lovely – and interesting! Check out the reviews of Penny Henderson’s book, “Vintage Cake Toppers” at Amazon.com to get an idea of the possibilities.

· Character cake toppers are big hits with young children and brides and grooms. Mickey and Minnie at the altar, Winnie the Pooh and Friends on a child’s honey pot, sculpted birthday cake are a couple of examples.

· Fresh fruit (grapes, kumquats, etc.) or sugar-crystallized fruit arranged in an extravagant display can make a pretty picture! (Use whole fruit so there’s no danger of juice running into your icing).

· Castles – the sky’s the limit here! Your castle cake topper can be the top of a sculpted castle cake or a glass, fairy castle. Castle cake toppers are often requested for wedding and birthday cakes, as well as special theme cakes such as renaissance.

· Here’s a real attention grabber – a topsy-turvy cake with a cake topper that teeters over the edge. For example, a teapot with dormouse on a Mad Hatter cake or two figurines depicting mountain climbing bride and groom.

· Miniature toys. Here’s another simple way to make an amazing cake topper. One idea is to place a rotating doll stand on top of a tiered or stacked birthday cake. Then add a cute toy train, such as Thomas, or a carousel with pretty white horses in pink halters, and your cake will be a big hit

· Polymer clay cake toppers can add a great deal of meaning, fun or both to a cake. You can find companies online that create them in realistic likenesses of the bride and groom sharing an activity (ballroom dancing, golfing, you name it!) You can also find generic but adorable ones, such as the hula bride and groom at in Rebecca Russell’s “Round Head” collection at

http://www.rebeccarusselltoppers.com/brides_and_groom.htm

· Flowers – place a bouquet of white lilies, beautifully molded with gum paste or a bouquet of real orchids on top of the cake and then add a few around the cake (using flower spikes), some pretty borders, and you’ll have an amazingly beautiful cake.

Here’s a tip for using flowers as a cake topper. Take into consideration the size of the cake. Tiny flowers can be used on a large cake, but if used on their own, theyÂ’ll be lost. Conversely, large flowers like bird-of-paradise will dwarf a smaller cake. Also, as with any cake topper, consider the style and formality of the event. Daisies are more casual than roses, while stephanotis can swing either way.

Here are a few ideas for flower cake toppers:

· With a bouquet of flowers on top of the cake, arrange a few clusters of flowers here and there on the lower tiers as if a few blossoms have gracefully fallen from the bouquet.

· A gum paste plumeria or orchid lei encircling bride and groom figurines.

· Adorn your cake only with edible (non-poisonous) flowers, being sure that the flowers are also pesticide-free.

Many of these cake topper tips come from “Cake Decorating Made Easy!” Here’s what one reader said about our Video Books:

“I highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys baking, decorating and the feeling of accomplishment when everyone crowds around your cakes for a closer look.”

Joanne Robitaille, Windsor, Ontario, Canad

If you’ve enjoyed learning about the visual and symbolic effects of cake toppers, check out our article on Decorated Cakes!

And here’s one more cake topper tip: Be sure that your cake topper is positioned well on the cake. Use an ornament base or a plate underneath a cake topper so it wonÂ’t sink into the cake. Attach small decorations to the cake or plate with royal icing and/or flower spikes.

Looking for a great family trip in 2008? One that may be drivable and if not offers domestic travel rates? This list is from areas all over the country so everyone can benefit. Check these out:

  1. New York City (NY) – Catch a Broadway show like the Lion King, go to Central Park and expose your kids to some delicious ethnic food. You can also hang out at a kid friendly hotel like Doubletree Guest Suites, Hilton Times Square or Four Seasons Hotel New York which offers tons of family amenities including extra large rooms (Doubletree), mega-entertainment complex (Hilton) and child-proofing (Four Seasons).
  2. Grand Canyon (AZ) – Complete a series of activities to become a Junior Ranger, learn about why water is so important to the Canyon (and to you to) and take a hike along one of the hundreds of trails (make sure you follow the guides).
  3. Yellowstone National Park – There are a myriad of fun activities here at Yellowstone including hiking, horseback riding, boating, camping, taking a Yellowstone Institute class and more. Yellowstone is home to hundreds of wildlife and lets us all get a big burst of nature in one place.
  4. Pennsylvania Dutch Country (PA) – Many think of the Amish when the Dutch Country comes to mind and there are ways to learn and explore about them. However there are a bunch of other fun and family friendly activities to do including: Cherry Crestfarm (5-acre maze, animal farm, pumpkin slinger, guided wagon tour, etc.); Longwood Gardens (over 1050 acres of gardens, woodlands and meadows); Strasburg Rail Road (45 minute ride); and more – too many to list.
  5. Mount Rushmore National Park (SD) – Take a picture of history for your children. In addition to the presidential front of Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial is being carved as we speak and will be the largest in the world when completed. Other wonderful family fun is to be found at the Journey Museum or taking a jeep safari through the grasslands. You may even see some buffalo roam. Checkout Badlands National Parks while you’re there and explore two of the U.S.’s longest caves, Wind Cave and Jewel Cave.
  6. San Diego (CA) – This beautiful city offers it all; white beaches, family attractions, great shopping and excellent food. The beaches in San Diego can not be beat, there are 70 miles of them along the coast. San Diego is home to Balboa Park, aka The Smithsonian of the West which is home to San Diego Zoo, 15 museums and 8 gardens. Other attractions include Legoland California and SeaWorld.
  7. Boston (MA) – The Boston Children’s Museum is one of the largest and most action packed in the country. There are over 20 other museums in Boston including the Boston Tea Party Ship & Museum, The New England Pirate Museum and the Harvard University Art Museum. In addition to the cultural aspect of the city you can check out the Boston Harbor Islands, take in the Blueman Show and visit my favorite, Quincy’s Market for some great entertainment, food and shopping.

So whether you live on the East or West Coast or somewhere in the middle, you can find a fun and affordable family vacation close to home. What’s in your backyard?

Who would have thought that there was a similarity between a motorcycle and a horse …!! Admittedly a motorcycle has an ECU of a brain and an engine for a heart with the pilot in full control of the direction of travel. A horse, on the other hand, has a real brain and a real heart. The brain can sometimes disagree with the pilot in many ways with respect to the direction of travel.

Why the comparison? Well, I was recently in London and was fortunate the opportunity to visit the cavalry barracks in the home of Knightsbridge in London's West End. The regiment Invitation was extended to me by B Regimental Corporal Major Spencer, Taylor, Esq. As part of a very traditional view of succession of custody between the two divisions of the regiment of bodyguards and the Blues and Royals. Upon arrival, I was very impressed to see a lot of motorcycles parked on campus. In a small study to explain why so many machines were in a place is necessary.

The answer was … Of course. It was mostly the main reasons for the different machines, Harley Davidson, Yamaha R6, Honda Fireblade throughout and Vespa. Everyone was there. I had the opportunity to see the changing of the guard taking place and then able to identify Rupert Hackman, AKA Gene to his friends, a template out of district Mounted Regiment Household Cavalry.

Rupert Walking a Yamaha R6 at work, then riding a beautiful horse black horse standing about 16.5 hands down his day job.

AABikes: Q: How long have you been riding?

Gen: 2 years.

AABikes: Dime travel time for how long and where?

Gene: I come from where most of the kids coming down the M4 Windsor, about 25 km. It is 40 minutes in a car around 6 am, however, at night, can last up to 3 hours depending on traffic. That's why bicycling. I can do at any time.

AABikes: Why a different bike here in the UK a car trip?

Gene: Well, first of all, we can filter traffic from here. Do not miss all the jams traffic only here at home. Also, do not pay £ 8.00 (depending on exchange rates may total U.S. $ 16.00) congestion charge on a bike, and save a fortune in gasoline. All I get wet when it rains all day.

AABikes: Have you seen a relief in traffic as the cost of congestion has been implemented?

Gene: No, of course not. Everything he has done is pushed before the peak hour from 7am. It comes instead at 7 am and most people stay up late to work after 6 pm when it is completed. It has made travel home on Friday afternoon more nice, because I think most people are multiplying in more hours per week and work at home on Friday.

AABikes: Why did you choose to travel on a R6?

Gene: Farrier recommendation I bought my bike off parents. I did a test shortcut that allowed me to ride any size bike after passing my test, I jumped on the R6 and loved all that that implies.

AABikes: Are there similarities between your bike and the way we do transport – a horse?

Gene: Believe – Yes or no! I just passed my test 2 years ago and balance and direction of the horse went straight on the bike. You take a horse with legs and the use of his legs, knees and body to steer a bike. The amount the district that I did helped me learn to ride a bike, I also thought that had nothing to worry that I could ride, but a horse has a brain and at times may disagree with where you want it to go, I have this problem with the bike. On the other hand, a horse has four legs and can not lower side in any corner.

AABikes: Has taken his R6 on a track?

Gene: No, but I do not know if he became an addict myself, I was on the carousel horses, but not that count?

As you can see, Gene thinks that his skills do not enjoy riding, when it passed the test bike!

I would like to thank the main regiment out Spencer Taylor B, for the invitation, and Rupert Hackman give me your time when you sat in the dining room of the NCO. Changing of the Guard is one of the most impressive traditions of the British Army.
